Seven Oaks Fishery - - The Facts

DESCRIPTION
OS Map 170 (1:50 000). Ref - 015 782.
One of the three ponds at this attractive and well-managed fishery in the green Vale of Glamorgan is devoted exclusively to providing the coarse angler with a good day out. Roughly triangular with its apex to the north it benefits from the warmer southerly winds funnelled up a shallow valley from the
Bristol Channel. It is about 1.5-acres in extent and goes down to over 18ft in the middle thus allowing both the pole and conventional rods equal opportunity for heavy catches and often producing a steep predictable thermocline in winter. Many types of Carp have been stocked more then a few topping 22lbs in weight - especially the Mirrors. Commons go up to about 18lbs. Careful stalking under the banks on the reedy northern side with an on-shore breeze can produce some surprises while a deep float further out may tempt a shoal of large Bronze bream. We all know every shoal of bream has a few “leaders†among its number and at Seven Oaks these regularly exceed a hefty 8lb. Virtually free of weed and relatively clear (due to its depth) the lake also holds good stocks of tench up to 5lb-plus and a large number of roach and rudd between 1-2lb. Fishing is permitted from 8 a.m. to dusk.
