DESCRIPTION
OS Map 146 (1:50 000). Ref - 526 616
It’d be a tough job to find a more tranquil venue to do battle with big fish than New Bethlehem. Named for its historical association with the Baptist order during the 17th century the fishery is adjacent to a narrow country lane as far from the tourist tracks as it is possible to get - even in Wales. The owners have laboured hard to create a first-class heavily stocked 2-acre pool with modern facilities for the holiday angler. This pool shortly to be accompanied by another has grassy mature banks and drops to over 14ft in places. A good selection of carp up to 20lbs is on offer: Mirrors commons grass silvers and crucians. Other species include plenty of roach and rudd to over 2lbs together with 5lb perch and rather larger tench. B& B and self catering accommodation is available in two excellent modern cottages and a small portion of the lakeside is geared for touring caravans and tents. The 30-acre site teems with wildlife of all sorts keen bird-watchers standing a good chance of seeing the red kite and buzzards more than once. About 20 minutes drive from the beaches of Cardigan Bay New Bethlehem is an ideal centre for a holiday with unlimited fishing thrown in for free.
TO GET THERE
At Ciliau Aeron on the A482 west of Aberaeron turn opposite the Post Office and follow the lane about 2 miles to the first proper cross-roads. Turn right go nearly 2 miles to the next cross-roads and the fishery is about a half-mile further on the right.
