Hywel Morgan

Hywel is the son of Welsh fishing guru Moc Morgan and perhaps unsurprisingly he was introduced to the pleasures of fishing at an exceptionally early age.

He first wet a line at just two and a half years of age and spent his early years fishing the Rivers Teifi and Ystwyth for wild brown trout and sea trout. Since then he has fished extensively throughout the UK, Europe, Australia and in the USA and loves sharing his knowledge and passion with all.

Casting...

Hywel has had an impressive casting career and is regularly seen demonstrating at up and down the country. During his years competing he won the following titles

  • World Games Accuracy Casting Champion
  • European Distance Casting Champion
  • European Silver Medallist (Accuracy)
  • 14 British casting records
  • 6 times All Round British Champion
  • Over 100 British Individual titles
  • World Record holder for multiple casting (66 rods cast simultaneously)

Fishing...

Having been successful in the casting scene, Hywel decided to return to fishing. He has represented Wales on twelve occasions (and has been captain for his country three times). Six times were at home internationals, where he was Top Rod on three occasions. The other six were at World Championships, where he captained the Welsh team to a silver medal in Ireland in 1995 and was a member of the silver medal winning team at England 2000. Individually he has been one of the most successful competitors from all the home countries, gaining results in silver, 4th, 7th and 10th places..

GUIDING

Boat fishing...

If you think that fishing a large reservoir is beyond you, or you are intimidated by such an expanse of water then why not let Hywel show you the ins and outs of boat fishing.

He will cover all the tactics you need to tackle any reservoir: from top of the water, right through to fast sunk line methods. You will learn all the modern techniques that are at the cutting edge of this sport.

Being a competitive angler allows Hywel to keep his finger on the pulse - and he is more than happy to share his wealth of knowledge. The only drawback to this is that you might find yourself suffering from information overload!

Of course, there are many fishing guides in this country, but Hywel is unique in being able to iron out any casting faults you might have, as well as teaching you all you need to know about reservoir fishing.

Hywel has competed in Home Internationals for the past 18 years, which means he has an in-depth knowledge of all the reservoirs in Wales and can show you the latest fish taking techniques and flies.

Casting instruction...

Having successfully competed for over 15 years in World and European casting competitions, Hywel has developed a keen eye for casting techniques and can iron out any faults you might have. His one-to-one half day casting clinics are proving very popular - the lesson is tailored to your requirements, whether it be single or double haul, single and double Spey casting or, Hywel's speciality, distance casting (where his personal best is over 80 metres).

Hywel is regularly asked to coach top casters who are preparing for an upcoming championship - so if you are a bank angler who wants those extra few yards, take a tip from the champions and book a lesson with Hywel!

If you have never tried fly fishing before then you can learn the basic casting technique in just a few hours. When you're finished you'll be a competent caster and have a working knowledge of all the tackle you need to start fishing on your own.

Perhaps you've already started and are having trouble with your casting... or maybe you're baffled by terms like 'single and double haul', 'snake rolls single' and 'double Spey'. Hywel will gear your lesson towards your specific needs. Whether it's just the basic cast or distance casting, your lesson will cover it (and more) and will be conducted in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.
