Coast Fishing
There are many ways to fish for Bass from the shore in Wales. Some of the coastline seems perfectly designed to cater for Bass and the fishermen who pursue them. The types of fishing an be fairly easily grouped.
Beach and Estuary Fishing - Vast Atlantic storm beaches such as Llangennith, Porth Neigwl (hell’s mouth), Whitesands Bay, and Freshwater west offer the angler an opportunity to fish for marauding bass while waist deep in rolling surf. Little bays such as Angle, Broughton Bay, and Abereiddi provide a haven when the larger beaches are too stormy to fish successfully. Wales has several long winding estuarine systems that provide ideal habitat for a variety of fish. The Dyfi Estuary, Loughour, and the tywi Estuary are just some examples of these It is these fish such as Flatfish and smal mullet that often attract the Bass into these areas to hunt. The migratory species for which Wales are famed, also travel through these estuaries, but you must remember if you are fishing for these that you must hold a current Migratory Fish License.
Fly and Lure Fishing - Both these Branches of the sport are increasingly popular with Bass anglers. The Llyn Peninsular, Pembrokeshire and The Gower are more than ideal if fishing from the rocks is your wish. The Cardigan Bay coastline offers fantastic solitary Fly fishing from the beach with miles upon miles of sandy stretches interspersed with groynes, rocky outcrops and other obstacles providing shelter to the prey fish which the Bass feed upon. Casting a surface popper lure or a sandeel imitation fly into the breaking waves at dusk and experiencing an explosive take is something an angler will never tire of.
