Fishing Methods and Hooks for Catch and Release

Like most aspects of fishing, catch and release requires preparation and selecting appropriate equipment and techniques. Not all conditions have to be met to make a release worthwhile, a salmon caught on a prawn with a large, barbed treble may have a good chance of survival, but one caught on a fly with a small barbless hook will have even a better chance.

Your tackle can be adapted- try changing your hooks on plugs and spinners as well as tube flies and waddingtons. By attaching a small split ring you can attach single or double hooks instead of trebles to lures and spinning baits.
