The hunt for the holy Grayling
Dove Bug
Wales has a flourishing grayling population, from their natural home on the large rivers of North and Mid Wales and their tributaries to her adopted rivers of the South.
Grayling are a wild fish, sensitive to man’s pollution; and in Wales she has found a perfect home.
The quantity and quality of Grayling is undisputed, the Dee, Wye and Severn both hold fish to over the 4lb mark and the rivers of the South, such as the Taff, Rhymney and Ewenny now have established populations with fish being caught to the 3lb mark
Whether you enjoy the experience of fishing for grayling on large untamed rivers or small intimate brooks; Wales can provide; together with the scenery, solitude, the experience is unique.
As the season for grayling is June 16th to March 14th, when the game fishing season draws to a close the grayling fishing is at its peak, this allows the angler the opportunity to fish all year.
With grayling the novice angler has an opportunity to learn, although not easy to catch, they are not as easily frightened as trout or sea trout; and will not be put off by a couple of clumsy casts.
