Fish Gower’s rugged rock marks, its golden sandy beaches and its muddy estuary venues with William Baker B.Sc, M.A. and his loyal dog Jenson. I have over 25 years sea angling experience on this beautiful stretch of the British coastline and is a FWSA (Federation of Welsh Sea Anglers) Level 1 Angling Coach.
Guided bespoke angling experiences can be arranged throughout the year to suit your every requirement.
Target species include Smoothound, Golden Grey Mullet, Flounder and above all Bass as well as other species that visit this area during the year.
Gower Guru’s aim is to tailor an angling adventure so that you can achieve your angling goal. Using a variety of methods I will within reason and your timescale try and give you an angling experience to remember.
ANGLING ADVENTURES
In these days of limited shore angling success there is still some superb shore angling experiences to be had, when the correct methods, timing, and effort is targeted towards any given species. My aim will be to take into account the given tidal, seasonal and weather conditions; and if the visiting angler is flexible and adventurous enough it will hopefully ensure that the visiting angler can achieve their angling goal.
Bass fishing is possible virtually every month of the year on the Gower with April to November being the best period. Big
bass fishing is a very time consuming affair and demands different methods but can be successful during autumn and into December. Smoothounds visit the Gower between June and September as do the Golden Grey Mullet. Flounder are traditionally targeted in the autumn months within the Lougher Estuary, but great sport can be had during April and May on local storm beaches.
To achieve angling success with regard to Bass and Smoothound it is often necessary to fish throughout the night and during the dawn and dusk periods.
It was decided to offer this bespoke guiding service after witnessing many visiting anglers attempting to fish on the Gower without success, often leaving a given mark as I was arriving. By simply adjusting the timing and methods I am confident that with my assistance the visiting angler can achieve some stunning successes with help from a local guide like myself.
PRACTICALITIES.

Tackle & Equipment:-
Rods to use include specialist bass rods both spinning and light
beach casting outfits. Salmon spinning and carp rods can also be used and are a great alternative to maximise sport.
Small fixed spool reels are used loaded with braid both for bait and lure fishing.
Basic terminal tackle is used with preference to using fluorocarbon lines. Lures are a big subject. A selection of surface and diving lures will be required. Tackle hire can be arranged and any loses will have to paid for as an extra. Bait can be expensive and is an additional cost to consider. A good head light is a must and the ability to have a dimmer function is preferred to keep light off the water. A digital camera is a good idea to capture your catch and take pictures of the stunning coastline of Gower.
Costs:-
The cost will vary dependant on the visiting anglers requirements and length of fishing sessions. A quote will be given dependant on the number of days/nights, tackle hire, bait, transport, catering, accommodation, etc. A general guide for a maximum of two anglers is £80 for a short half day session and £200 for an all night 12-14hr guided session. These figures exclude such costs as lures, bait, transport and catering requirements. Contact myself for more details.
Clothing:-
Breathable waders, wet suits, field boots, hiking boots, good quality technical clothing, light warm outer layers and waterproof breathable outer layers will all help you feel comfortable whilst fishing.
Conservation:-
Bass fishing in Wales and throughout the UK has a minimum size limit but I encourage catch and release as a necessity to preserve future stocks and only the occasional fish is kept for the table. If you want to catch and keep all your fish I wont be interested in taking your booking.
Catering:-
High energy food and drink helps to keep you awake and alert during long sessions and this can be arranged prior to your visit. All catering requirements can be arranged and there are a wide variety of top quality restaurants to choose from in and around Swansea. I can cook your catch if required with my own recipes using additional ingredients and vegetables from my garden.
Additional Information:-
The visiting angler must be reasonably fit as long distances will be covered to get to the better venues, often, once at a given area it will be necessary to move a number of times or even switch venues dependant on tide and catches.
A maximum of two anglers at any one time can be accommodated.
It must be stressed that any loss or injury whilst participating on any guided session is not the Gower Guru’s responsibility. You accompany the Gower Guru at your own risk.
There is ample car parking at the Swansea cottage with room to park up a small boat if required.
Transportation can be arranged, the visiting angler might want to be picked up from Swansea station or even Cardiff or Bristol airports. Transportation from your accommodation to venues can also be arranged.
In addition to angling I am offering coastal walking tours on Gower, both day and night walking tours. Where some of Gower’s wildlife will be hopefully encountered including seals, otters and its abundant and varied birdlife. Historical based tours might be of interest with modern industrial Gower prior to the area being designated An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1952 being one of my specialist areas.
Beachcombing may be of interest to the visitor, there are a number of areas where fantastic finds can be made. Drift wood carved by the sea is a wonderful centre piece in the living room or garden.
The visiting angler might want to combine a number of other activities whilst staying in the area. Swansea has many boat fishing charters. If you are a freshwater angler you might want to visit the Shimano Felindre Big Fish Water located in lovely countryside to the north of Swansea. Maybe you might want to have surfing lessons or surf some of the fabulous breaks found all around the Gower. Gower Coast Adventures offers an exhilarating boat trip around the south Gower coastline. If you are a walker, climber, artist, photographer, beachcomber, kayaker,
horse rider, surfer, wildlife enthusiast Gower offers a wealth of opportunities for you.
If you own a dog bring them along with you that is no problem.
To the west of Swansea at Milford Haven, Blue Sharks can be caught during August, September and October, you may want to combine a shark fishing charter during your stay in the area.
To round off your stay the visiting angler might want to experience a lively night out in Swansea city centre, with its variety of pubs, clubs and restaurants.
The Gower Guru offers not only a basic guided sea angling session. It is my aim to offer a complete and overall angling adventure and experience in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK if not the world.
