Tips
1) Do buy a proper inflating pump, this will then enable you to inflate the tube in 5 minutes, they are available from most fishing stores and Argos etc.
2) At first never floatube for more than two hours at a time, most of us are not as fit as we care to admit, and cramp can easily set in, whilst cramp is not that dangerous in a floatube, it is very uncomfortable.
3) Silly one this, after putting your flippers on never walk forwards, as a headlong fall on your face is not very elegant, always walk backwards.
4) Wear a lifejacket, although in my mind a floatube is far safer than a boat, it is reckless to go afloat on anything without one.
5) The floatube has usually three pockets. Pump goes in the top pocket, fishing tackle in one arm pocket, lunch and refreshment in the other, with that you are set for a days fishing.
6) Always start fishing from the lee shore, as you can only travel backwards in a floatube, therefore you will start fishing straight away with the wind at your back.
7) When unhooking a fish or undoing a wind knot, paddle slowly backwards. This prevents the trailing flies from going under the floatube.
8) Gentle paddle allows you to be stationary, and by altering the angle of your feet when paddling you can move sideways
9) Never fish a mountain lake on your own, these are remote places, and if you have an accident, help might be a long time coming.
10) Be aware of the weather, this can change quickly.
11) Always deflate your tube after use and store hanging so it can dry out thoroughly.
