Snake flies
Midnight Special
Classic combination of pearl mylar with sparsely tied artic fox hair wings highlighted with one strand each of red and blue mirrorflash and smolt blue crystal flash. Side cheeks of Metz grizzle hackle give the fly the killer instinct
Very good for fresh fish and estuary fishing.
Black Adder
Dark and devious not unlike the TV character. The treble has GP tippets and a gold target band to black mylar body. A black squirrel hair wing overlaid with 2 strands of black crystal flash and black Metz side hackles finished with AA grade jungle cock give this fly the X factor.
This is a late night fly for fishing deep as a sunk lure in the classic Falkus 2nd half style.
Black and Silver
Needs no introduction to any Welsh sea-trout fisherman and is probably the most succesful combination of colours amongst all styles and sizes of fly. In snake fly variant it is a great allrounder, again finished with Jungle Cock.
Medicine
Borrows the attributes of the Falkus classic. A bit of a hybrid of the medicine and the sunk lure with 4 strands of peackock herl highlights, King fisher blue artic fox wings, and ultra slim Metz grizzly hackles, running the length of the body.
Spate Special
Awesome in falling water when a lot of guys would be cranking the spinning reel. Designed to be seen and will take fish down to 8" visibility, particularly in the "taking zone" on the near bank.
Bronze Stoat
Very succesful pattern of my own creation, tied on a size 8 double with trailing mylar body to a size 14 treble. The body material is unusual and understated but has "somethinging about it" Rumph Arizona bronze diamond braid overwound with silver oval tinsel, Black squirrel wings with 2 strands of black crystal flash and jungle cock cheeks.
