Tackle to use when fishing for pike
All tackle for Pike has to be very strong. Any weakness will let you down, usually when a specimen is hooked. Your rod has to be up to the job and for this reason many anglers prefer to use light sea rods for lakes and salmon spinning rods for rivers. You can always buy a purpose-built Pike rod, of course.
Wye Pike
The reel has to be on the same scale and loaded with at least 15lb line; 18 to 20lbs is better and, as with all other fishing methods, the end-tackle is the most important. An adequate wire trace must be used; one look at the equipment in the mouth of your first Pike will show you why. Ensure you have a long disgorger or pliers for unhooking and always use them! Several ingenious hook tackles are available for securely attaching the dead-bait to a float, but for legering a single long-shank hook is more popular. You’ll need a baiting hook for this. Big spinners are best, whether they be Tobies, Spoons or any other pattern. Welsh Pike will gobble them all.
Obtain a couple of suitable floats, some weights, and you’re in business.

The Pike Anglers' Club
The Pike Anglers' Club of Great Britain was formed in 1977 as a direct result of changing attitudes toward pike. For far too long pike had been regarded by fishery owners and some anglers as vermin, to be killed and removed at all costs. Since it's inception, the PAC has done much to drastically change this mistaken attitude and pike are now widely regarded as a positive element in the natural balance of any fishery.
